Overview

Modifiers (also known as modifier groups, choice groups, or add-on options) let you offer customization and variations for your items. They allow staff and customers to choose sizes, toppings, cooking preferences, add-ons, and more during checkout.

Common examples include:

  • Sizes: Small, Medium, Large for beverages

  • Toppings: Cheese, Bacon, Avocado for food items

  • Preferences: Rare, Medium, Well-done for meat

  • Add-ons: Extra shot, Whipped cream for coffee

Benefits

  • Increase Average Order Value by offering upgrades and add-ons

  • Improve Workflow with predefined, easy-to-select customization options

  • Reduce Errors by standardizing choices for staff and customers

Who Is This For?

  • Store owners setting up customizable menu items

  • Retail and F&B staff configuring item variations

  • Businesses offering upgrades, choices, or add-ons

  • Managers responsible for menu planning and product configuration

Best Practices for Modifiers

• Keep modifier names short and clear (e.g., “Extra Shot”)
• Use consistent naming across categories (e.g., Small/Medium/Large)
• Limit the number of modifiers to avoid overwhelming customers
• Use pricing strategically to encourage upsells
• Assign modifiers only to relevant items to keep checkout clean
• Regularly review sales reports to identify top and low performers
• Reorder modifiers so popular options appear at the top

Troubleshooting

  1. Modifier not showing during checkout

    1. Ensure the modifier is added to a group

    2. Confirm the group is assigned to the item

    3. Check modifier availability settings (store locations)

  2. Unable to delete a modifier

    1. Remove it from all groups first

    2. Ensure no items are referencing the modifier indirectly

  3. Incorrect pricing appearing

    1. Review channel-specific pricing settings

    2. Make sure changes were saved successfully

  4. Modifier not syncing

    1. Wait a few minutes for sync

    2. Check network connection
